Resumé: In this session, I will review the results obtained by historians of astronomy over the last fifty years, which have led to a complete rethinking of the idea of a scientific revolution developed in the mid-twentieth century.
I will first look in detail at the different Arabic translations of the Almagest and then at the different scientific traditions active between the eighth and eleventh centuries. I will then discuss the works written between the twelfth and fifteenth centuries in Arabic in the East and in Latin in the West.
