Magnetic fields, chemistry, protoplanetary disks, …Overview of non-ideal MHD in star formation

Resumé:

Magnetic fields play a major role during the formation of stars. From the interstellar medium where they act on the formation on pre-stellar cores, to protoplanetary disks in which they regulate angular momentum and create outflows, an accurate description of their evolution is critical to understand and model star formation. This evolution is thightly coupled to the micro-physics and chemistry of the gas, and what happens at microscopic scales has a large macroscopic impact. This framework is called nonideal magnetohydrodynamics (MHD). In this seminar, I will present non-ideal MHD and review its effects, with their origin and their consequences on star formation. I will also discuss the current state-of-the-art of numerical modeling of non-ideal MHD, including chemistry, dust grain physics and numerical schemes.

A peculiar density profile inside Jupiter

le 6 décembre 2024, 10h45 à 12h45, Florian Debras, salle Jules Verne, OMP, site Belin Resumé: Since 2016, the Juno satellite is orbiting Jupiter and has completely changed our understanding of the planet. From the atmosphere to the deep interior, including the auroras, Juno is providing a wealth of data that challenges models of Jupiter. […]
