First results from the JWST mission and Early release Science project on Orion

le 14 octobre 2022, 11h à 13h, Olivier Berné, salle Jules Verne, OMP, site Belin

In this seminar, I will present the first scientific results that have been obtained from the JWST mission. After a general presentation of the mission and science results on various topics, I will describe the Early Release Science (ERS) project in which IRAP is involve. This ERS project is dedicated to the Orion Nebula (Berné, Habart, Peeters PASP 2022 / pdrs4all.org), and more specifically to the Orion Bar photodissoication region. I will present some of the results obtained during our September 2022 observing campaign, and what we have learnt on the Orion Nebula, on photodissociation regions, on interstellar chemistry, and on protoplanetary disks, notably, using this dataset. I will also describe how various machine learning methods have been applied to this data so as to extract the critical information.
